The sun is shining and the birds are singing
so it must be getting close to our April unit meeting.

Our brunch meeting will not be on the first Monday in April because that is the day after Easter.

The meeting will be on the second Monday, April 9, at 10AM
at Lake Street Methodist Church, 337 Lake Street.

Jim Backus will present a program on wildlife photography.  You may have seen one of his beautiful books and wondered how someone could take such fantastic pictures. Maybe we will learn some tips that could help all of our photographs.

The cost of the brunch is $10.  RSVP no later than Thursday, April 5, to Loreen at 715-836-7801 or at

I hope that many of our members will be able to attend. It will be nice to see some of the snowbirds return!

j0406066[1]     ECAREA      Eau Claire Area Retired Educators
ECAREA Unit Meeting
Eau Claire Country Club
December 4, 2017
12:00 p.m.

The meeting began with Chris welcoming everyone and leading us in the table prayer.  Visitors and first time attendees were introduced.  ____ people were in attendance.

Business Meeting

A. Minutes:  The minutes from the November Unit meeting were approved and will be recorded as submitted by Sally.  Cathy sent copies of the minutes to all members on the ECAREA email list.

B.  Treasurer: Judy reported that as of today we have a balance of $2860.00 in the checking account and $1657.00 in the savings account.

C. Committee Reports:

Social: Loreen thanked the wait staff and complimented them on the delicious meal.  Loreen had originally arranged to have a plated meal served at the tables, however when we go there they had set up a buffet. The woman she had contracted with was not there so Loreen talked with someone else about the mishap.  The food we did have was delicious and the members seemed to manage the buffet ok.

Membership/Newsletter:  Ruth welcomed the new people in attendance and announced that we now have a membership of 85.  She encouraged everyone to invite all retirees to our meetings.

Legislative/Education: Owen had a written report on the table which informed the members that there are no current legislative alerts and shared the WRS performance returns which are both outperforming the benchmarks. He said that if this continues through the end of the year we can look forward to a raise in 2018.  Owen also shared that the Eau Claire and Altoona school districts scored higher in the D.P.I. state report than 95% of the public school districts in the state.

Past President:  Cathy asked for members to let her know what the total is for their volunteer hours for 2017.

Health: Nan alerted members to the new shingles vaccine that will be out soon.  She said that it is a series of two shots and that it is 90% effective.  Most insurances will cover the cost and if you have had the old vaccine you should also have this new one.

Bottle caps/labels:  Carol thanked everyone who has brought boxtops/labels to our meetings.  She said that there has been an increase in numbers lately.  Keep it up.

Website:  Cheryl asked for a show of hands from members if they ever go to the ECAREA site.  There was enough response for her to agree to continue to keep it going.

D.  Old Business

The business meeting was adjourned for the program.
