ECAREA Unit Meeting
Florian Gardens
December 5, 2016

The luncheon began with Chris welcoming everyone and leading us in a table prayer.  Visitors and first time attendees were introduced.  37 people were in attendance. 

Business Meeting

A. Minutes:  The minutes from the November Unit meeting were approved and will be recorded as submitted by Sally.  Cathy sent copies of the minutes to all members on the ECAREA email list.

B.  Treasurer: Judy reported that as of today we have a balance of $2777.22 in the checking account and $1656.97 in the savings account. 

C. Committee Reports:

Social: Loreen thanked the Florian Gardens for their festive décor and wonderful service.  She also announced the servers for February.    

Membership:  Ruth shared that our membership is down a bit from previous years at 81.  She encouraged everyone to invite former coworkers and retirees to join us.

Legislative/Education:  Owen shared information on the recent presidential election and addressed the issues of school funding, WRS performance, the possible privatization of Medicare and the 2015-2016 School Report Cards issued by the D.P.I. He also sent around the information booklet on Senior American Day at UWEC.  Owen’s full written report was available to all members and is filed with this report.

Past President: Cathy informed everyone is attendance there were volunteer hour reporting sheets on their tables.  She requested everyone in attendance to take a minute to fill out the form and give it to her or Chris before leaving today, or send it to her in an email.

Health: Nancy shared brain research about having the experience of walking into a room and not remembering what you are there for as being “normal”.  She suggested we think about our purpose as we walk through the door and it will follow us into the room.       

Newsletter:   Jeanette requested articles for the newsletter no later than January 10th.

Website:  Cheryl encouraged members to visit the website and email her from there about our favorite books, movies, or anything we would like to share.

Bottle caps/labels:  Carol shared that our contributions to this program have not been as high as in previous years.  She said that some of the companies have made it more difficult to redeem benefits or have discontinued doing it completely.  She encouraged members to please continue looking for and collecting these items.


D.  Old Business
1.      Chris reminded everyone once again about submitting volunteer hours.

2.      Chris announced that our next Unit meeting will be on February, 6th.    

E.  New Business

1.      Chris shared our indoor recess games will go to Roosevelt and Mondovi.

2.      Sally read a thank you note from Dani Claesges, the director of the ECASD homeless program, for the donations we collected at our October meeting.

3.      Both Owen and Sally asked for volunteers to fill their positions on the Board during their absences in January-March. 

The business meeting was adjourned for the program.

G.  Program
            Loreen introduced Jeanne Anderson and Jean Severtson, the musical entertainment.  We enjoyed listening and singing along to Christmas Carols.
