UNIT MEETING NOVEMBER 6, 2017 MINUTES
EAU CLAIRE AREA RETIRED EDUCATORS UNIT MEETING NOVEMBER 6, 2017

Chris Kondrasuk called the meeting to order at 1:30 pm. October’s unit minutes were accepted as prepared. Judy announced that we had changed to Bremmer Bank and had a surprise announcement of our interest: .01 on our checking and  .07 on our savings! Balance for the checking is $2636.01 and for savings is $1657.15.
Owen said there were no current legislative alerts. The WRS performance as of Sept. 30, 2017 is 11.9% Core Fund and 16.3% Variable Fund. He suggested that interested members should see a recent favorable article in Time Magazine’s Nov. 6th issue about Betsy Devos and her support for students’ protection in cases of alleged sexual assaults.
Carol reminded members of boxtops/labels and print cartridges.
Loreen thanked the servers for today’s meeting: Pat Tompkins and Marilyn Thompson. She also gave a report on the recent State Convention which she and Chris attended. She praised the keynote speakers, as well as the break-out sessions and the entertainment. She and Chris thanked the membership for the opportunity to attend.
Chris asked again for a new Health Chair. She also passed around a signup sheet for anyone wanting a Health Envelope at a  cost of $1.00.
Old business included reminders of volunteer hours which will be collected in December, and games/donations for elementary school indoor recess which will also be collected in December.
New business included recognition of Bill Benson for his appointment to the Wisconsin Art Educators Board. Challenge Award grants of $2000 will go to elementary schools this year, and applications are now open. Chris also passed around a list of labor films which will be shown at UW-EC . They are recommended by WEAC- Retired.
The meeting was adjourned at 2pm for a presentation by Jodi Emerson of the Fierce Freedom group about Human Trafficking in our Community.
